Wash & Store // Chemistry & Preservation

From Road Grime to Rest

Motorcycles expose bare aluminum castings, unsealed switchgear, Delrin bushings, and hot exhaust headers directly to the elements. Washing with harsh alkaline detergents or trapping wash water beneath an unvented cover causes more corrosion than riding in the rain.

Safe Wash pH Range pH 6.5 – 8.0
Chain Seal Material Nitrile (Buna-N)
Storage Humidity Target < 60% RH
Battery Float Voltage 13.2V – 13.6V

Chemical Compatibility Matrix

Chemical Category Intended Surface Keep Strictly Away From Workshop Handling Note
Kerosene / Paraffin Chain Cleaner O-ring, X-ring, Z-ring chains & sprockets Brake discs, caliper pads, tire sidewalls Wipe excess dry before applying chain wax so lube penetrates roller pins.
Non-Chlorinated Brake Cleaner Steel brake rotors, metal fasteners Rubber O-rings, polycarbonate screens, painted plastics Spray onto a lint-free shop towel rather than blasting directly at caliper piston seals.
Neutral-pH Snow Foam / Shampoo Painted tanks, anodized forks, powdercoat Hot engine cases (let cool below 35°C first) Use two buckets with grit guards; use separate mitts for paintwork and lower wheels.
Thin-Film Corrosion Blocker (ACF-50 / XCP) Engine cases, spoke nipples, frame welds Brake rotors, tire contact patch, handlebar grips Warm the bottle in warm water first so it atomizes into a fine mist rather than drips.
Protective Covers // Indoor vs. Outdoor

Select a Cover That Matches Your Parking Environment

Step 1: Forced-Air Drying

Microfiber towels cannot reach inside recessed cylinder head bolt holes, radiator fins, or starter relay boots. Use a filtered warm-air blower to drive standing water out of crevices before rolling the bike back into the garage.

Step 2: Breathable Fabric Architecture

Indoor garage bays need 100% breathable fleece-lined stretch covers that stop workshop dust without trapping slab moisture. Outdoor covers require taped waterproof upper seams, mirror vent flaps, and a belly strap to stop wind whip against clear coat.
